Position Summary and Qualifications:
The Academic Mentor for Men's and Women's Basketball will oversee a variety of academic support interventions for student athletes on the Men's and Women's Basketball teams. This is a part-time, 12-month position that provides both individual and team educational support within the Athlete Center for Enrichment office. This position will work approximately 20 hours/week.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Work in conjunction with the ACE Director and Assistant Director to provide academic support to the student-athletes on the Men’s and Women’s basketball teams.
Identify students with diverse learning profiles to provide proactive interventions and individualized academic plans.
Develop and implement academic support plans for under-prepared and eligibility-risk student-athletes.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Work in conjunction with the ACE Director and Assistant Director to provide academic support to the student-athletes on the Men’s and Women’s basketball teams.
Identify students with diverse learning profiles to provide proactive interventions and individualized academic plans.
Develop and implement academic support plans for under-prepared and eligibility-risk student-athletes.
Submit daily and weekly academic reports and updates
Coordinate tutoring requests and connect students to various campus resources.
Follow up with students regarding Starfish flags, concerns expressed by professors or concerns from reports or meetings.
Provide basic technology support and assist student-athletes to develop computer skills.
Develop strong working relationships with student-athletes to foster an environment conducive to learning and building key skills necessary for academic and personal success including: critical thinking, writing, reading, note taking, study strategies, and self-advocacy
Comply with all rules and regulations of the NCAA, Atlantic 10 and Saint Joseph's University
Secondary Duties & Responsibilities:
Oversee structured team study halls, as needed
Conduct academic skills workshops for both teams to address goal setting, time management, study skills, organization and reading comprehension.
Work with Supervisor on administrative tasks within the Athlete Center for Enrichment
Other duties assigned by the Director.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required:
At least 2 years professional experience with high school or college age students in an educational setting
Master’s degree and experience in teaching or learning support.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Platforms.
Preferred:
Areas of specialization helpful are special education, study strategies, learning styles, reading skills, tutoring foundations and teaching certification.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws including, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the ADA.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
To work around the class, practice and competition schedules of the student-athletes, the job may include evenings and weekends.
The schedule may adjust each semester due to changes in class and practice
