Job Description:

Primary Responsibilities:

• Implement a health care delivery system that provides injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation for student-athletes.  This requires the athletic trainer to be available before, during and after all practices and competitions, at home and away, for their assigned sport(s).  This also includes the requirement for the athletic trainer to communicate with the head coach(es) and strength & conditioning staff about the status of injured student-athletes so the coach can effectively strategize practice and competition plans.
• Perform administrative responsibilities that include, but are not limited to: pre-participation physical examinations, required laboratory & diagnostic tests, inputting information into student-athletes health record, insurance claims/tracking/correspondence, travel-related receipt submission & reimbursement.
• Collaborate with a network of physicians, hospitals, physical therapist and specialists that will provide the most reasonable health care for student-athletes who become injured or ill as a result of participation in intercollegiate athletics.
• Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with purchasing supplies & equipment, administering the drug testing program and providing education to coaches & student-athletes.  Athletic trainer is required to maintain continuing education credits and when applicable, attend professional development opportunities.
• Other reasonable duties as assigned

Functional and Supervisory Relationship:

• Reports to: Assistant Athletic Director/Head Athletic Trainer
• Supervises the following positions:  Student assistants

Job Requirements:

• Knowledge of all student-athlete safety and welfare items, especially concussion management, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, mental health and nutrition.
• Knowledge of NCAA and conference affiliate policies and procedures. 
• Knowledge of health care system and HIPPA regulations.
• Ability to work varying schedules (evenings, weekends, holidays, etc.).
• Ability to travel.
• Ability to work under pressure and make sound medical decisions.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
• Ability to prioritize tasks.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's degree in athletic training from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization and a certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) OR 
• Bachelor's degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization and holds a 2020 or earlier certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).
• Eligible for licensure in New York State.
• Current, or in progress, certification in CPR/AED training.
• Computer literacy and knowledge of operating athletic training-based software programs.
• Applicants must demonstrate an ability to support diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging relative to their role
• Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within our diverse campus community

Preferred Qualifications:

• 1+ years of experience as a certified athletic trainer at the high school or collegiate level.
• Experience working at the Division I level.

Working Environment:

• Athletic trainers are student-facing employees so it's critical they are available and accessible during their typical work schedule.
• Office environment consists of: updating injury tracking reports, data entry, communication with department & medical personnel, meeting with department staff & student-athletes, returning phone calls, emails, etc.  This is typically where the administrative tasks are completed.
• Athletic Training room environment consists of: prevention, treatment, evaluation and rehabilitation of injuries of student-athletes.  Performing treatment using modalities, hot/cold plunge, stretching, etc.  This is a fast-paced environment where multiple student-athletes need treatment and the ability to multi-task and prioritize are critical to the success of the operation.
• Sport-specific venue consists of: attending all practices/competitions, setting up venue as needed with water, ice, tent, treatment table, etc.  Accommodate the visiting team's athletic training needs and communicate with the visiting team athletic trainer about venue-specific emergency action plan.  This may require working outdoors during inclement weather.
• This job is physical in nature.  The physical demands include moderate lifting, ability to apply treatment/stretch student-athletes, ability to work from multiple locations within the department depending on the activity, ability to assist an injured athlete of the field/court, etc.
• Athletic trainers may be contacted after their typical work hours to answer questions, respond to medical inquiries, provide injury reports, etc. 
• Due to the travel requirements, athletic trainers are required to perform their responsibilities at locales away from home (opposing teams' venue, hotel, bus, etc.).

Professional Rank and Salary Range: SL-2, $49,261-$50,599
