Job Summary

The Assistant Softball Coach will assist the head coach in all facets of the softball program including recruiting student-athletes, scheduling games/scrimmages, planning team and individual travel, coordinating summer camps, film preparation, helping to develop and manage the operating budget, and conducting daily practice during the team and individual segments. They must also help develop a competitive program within the Lone Star Conference with the goal of postseason participation. This position is subject to an NCAA enforcement staff compliance review, and employment is contingent upon satisfactory results.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

• Execute a successful recruiting and retention plan.
• Integrating the recruiting and retention program into the campus community.
• Aid in scheduling, planning, and supervising practices and contests.
• Travel with team as needed.
• Manage the program operating budget.
• Assist with fundraising.
• Help administer all aspects of the program ensuring compliance with departmental, institutional, Lone Star Conference, and NCAA DII rules and regulations.
• Participate in alumni and booster engagement including promotion of the program on social media platforms.
• Aid in managing and operating within the budget parameters, without exception.
• Submit all receipts and budget reports on time as directed by the Director of Athletics.
• Ensure satisfactory academic performance of student-athletes.
• Ensure the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes.
• Establish and ensure a safe environment for student-athletes, including providing education and methods for discussing and resolving harassment or discrimination.
• Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all athletics staff members and student-athletes through a positive and constructive approach to all tasks, respect for the competencies of others and appropriate conflict resolution behavior.
• Responsible for successful coaching of the UT Tyler Softball team including maximizing the team’s potential/abilities.
• Aid in the responsibility for the design, execution, and effectiveness of a system of internal controls, which provides reasonable assurance that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, financial information is reliable, and applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures are complied with.
• Assist with athletic facility maintenance to include operating mower and related power equipment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Education/Experience

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Three (3) years of successful collegiate coaching experience and/or college playing experience in softball.
• CPR Certified or will become certified.
• Texas Driver's License within two (2) months of employment.

Preferred Education/Experience

• Master’s degree.
• Coaching experience/working knowledge of NCAA DII rules.

• Evidence of the ability to plan, organize, and administer training strategies for practice and game implementation.
• Basic knowledge of computers including databases.
• Must possess strong oral and written communication skills.
• Must possess strong public relations and interpersonal skills to interact effectively and professionally with the University community, outside community, and the press.
• Must possess a commitment to student learning and success, as well as a dedication to growth, development, innovation, and improvement.
• Must possess commitment and capability to abide by NCAA and Conference rules.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
