The University of New Hampshire Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Communications Assistant, Athletic Communications. The position is considered non-benefited hourly, with a nine-month appointment from approximately September 8, 2025-June 30, 2026. This adjunct position is overtime-eligible with a maximum of three years as a total appointment. The work schedule may be altered as necessary.

The position reports to the Associate Director of Athletics for Marketing and Communications.

Role:
The Communications Assistant, Athletic Communications is a member of the UNH Athletics Communications team, which falls under Athletics External Operations. A major component of this role is to serve as front-line ambassador for designated athletic teams as assigned and engage in close collaboration with those teams’ staffs. Travel with some sports is expected.

In addition to working with coaches, the role requires an understanding of UNH Athletics’ strategies around fan engagement, building attendance, generating revenue, and communicating about the student-athlete experience. Accordingly, the role requires this person to draw on the external operations resources (digital media, UNH Wildcat Productions, media relations, marketing, etc.) to implement organizational objectives. Critical skills include proficiency and timeliness with social media marketing including, but not limited to, knowledge of leading media platforms and how-to skills for community building. Short-form writing skills, media relations, sport-specific statistical documentation, and in-game statistical oversight are also important competencies.

This position communicates regularly with campus personnel, donors, alumni, and the Athletics Development office to strengthen the program’s relationship with each stakeholder group.

Duties and job description:

  • Relay key messaging to external stakeholders

  • Identify and pitch content directly or through External Operations for social media, print, and broadcast media
