Alabama State University, Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, invites applications to fill the role of Assistant Director of Sports Medicine. Alabama State is an NCAA D-1 Institution competing in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, seeks qualified applicants for the Assistant Director of Sports Medicine position. The selected candidate will be responsible for supporting the Department of Sports Medicine in practice and game coverage, assisting in the daily operations of the athletic training
room, and providing multifaceted healthcare for the Men’s Basketball and other assigned sports program at Alabama State University. This position reports to the Director of Sports Medicine.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide healthcare services for the Men’s Basketball and other assigned sports program, including but not limited to: Injury prevention and evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation, practice/event coverage, physician referral, medical appointments, and assistance with referrals to counseling for student-athletes.
• Maintain communication with the team physician(s) regarding athletic health care and recommended treatment/rehabilitation for all athletic injuries.
• Assist coaching staff in evaluating and implementing sport-specific conditioning programs and methods.
• Assist in selecting and fitting protective equipment, Including special taping, pads, or braces.
• Assist with the maintenance of athletic training equipment and monitoring Inventory
• Assist with the maintenance and organization of the student-athlete's medical files
• Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks
• Remain current with all national and state certifications and licensure and follow the NATA code of ethics, including annual CEU opportunities
• Other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in athletic training, exercise science, or closely related field, 4 years of postbaccalaureate athletic training experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience, NATAB0C Athletic Trainer certification, eligible for Alabama state licensure, current First Aid and CPR/AE0 certifications, knowledge of NCAA and SWAC rules and regulations, valid U.S. Driver's License with an insurable driving record, and be able to travel and work nights, weekends, and holidays are required.
