Position Summary

Walsh University, a member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC), is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Football Coach.

The Assistant Football coach will assist the Head Coach in all facets of the Division II football program including organizing, planning, coaching, directing and recruiting. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Head Football Coach.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assists the head coach in organizing, managing, planning and directing the program.
• The assistant coach will primarily instruct, train and coach the Defensive line on the skills required. There are possible coordinating responsibilities (dependent upon experience).
• Educates and mentors student athletes in all aspects of their holistic development; mind, body and spirit and safety and health.
• Assists with program leadership duties, including directing the coaching staff on Defensive Line play, team composition, competition strategies and peak performance
• Assists the head coach with all aspects of the program including training, competing and scheduling.
• Assists in the coordination of equipment distribution, purchasing and inventory.
• Assists in completion and processing of paperwork as requested.
• Assists with recruiting, including contacting prospective student-athletes, evaluating high school and junior college players, and maintaining accurate records and databases on the NCAA Compliance Assistant program.
• Works cooperatively with personnel in the athletic department, attends department meetings and activities, and always represents the University in a positive manner when interacting with the community, alumni, coaches, the media and the general public.
• Will be involved in practice installations, learn the defensive system and terminology, assume a designated recruiting area and host camps that the full time coaches will help coordinate position groups and recruit prospects for participation.
• Responsible for abiding by NCAA II compliance rules and legislation as well as educating student-athletes about those rules.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and/or the Vice President/Director of Athletics.
• Failure to comply by NCAA II rules will be grounds for discipline and/or termination.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

Must understand and support the Mission, Vision and Code of Ethical Conduct of Walsh University, as a Catholic higher education university as expressed in Ex Corde Ecclesiae, and possess the following:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field required.

Work Experience: At least 3 years’ experience in the sport of Football , including playing and/or coaching. Other significant experience relative to coaching and/or the administration of an intercollegiate athletics program can be considered.

Skills and abilities:

• Professional demeanor and ability to interact with charity towards students, staff and faculty. Positive attitude a must.
• Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; Word, Excel, Outlook

• Must be able to handle and communicate over loud noises in gymnasium; whistles, crowd noise; yelling and screaming.
