Alabama State University, Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, invites applications for the position of Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance. This position will have the responsibility of overseeing the Performance Enhancement department's efforts in the areas of strength & conditioning for the Intercollegiate Athletics Department. Responsibilities include designing, implementing and supervising student athletes during training sessions for 18 NCAA DI (FCS) athletic teams for in-season, post-season, pre-season, and non-traditional season. The Candidate will demonstrate all training exercises and conditioning drills, assist with the organization and administration of the weight room, and compliance with NCAA, SWAC an University policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight of the department, make staff selections, conduct evaluations for staff, and make recommendations regarding personnel matters
  • Communicate and interact with applicable athletic department administration, sports medicine, and academic support
  • Regularly meet with the strength and conditioning staff to discuss goals, aspirations, and relevant topics as necessary
  • Formulate, and oversee the annual budget for Performance Enhancement
  • Research, develop, and implement a progressive and dynamic athletic performance enhancement program for student-athletes that ensures a state of the art approach in the areas of strength power, speed, agility, flexibility, conditioning, injury prevention and nutrition
  • Direct applications of scientifically proven performance enhancement initiatives in the areas of strength power, speed, agility, flexibility, conditioning, injury prevention and nutrition

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required in exercise science, kinesiology or a related field from an accredited college/university. Must be certified through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA), Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC) or the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS. In addition, certification through the United States of America Weightlifting ( USAW-Sport Performance Coach) is strongly preferred. Must be currently CPR/AED and First Aid certified). Two or more years of strength and conditioning experience at the collegiate level. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with Olympic sports and female student athletes. Candidate must be passionate and enthusiastic about the field of strength and conditioning as well as knowledgeable in strength training, speed, agility, flexibility, nutrition and cardiovascular conditioning. Candidate must have a demonstrated ability effectively teach and execute proper technique of Olympic lifts and drills, demonstrated ability to manage and supervise team training sessions and assist with the maintenance and upkeep of the strength and conditioning facilities.
