ASSIGNMENT:
• Position available to serve as a full-time athletic trainer for the University of Houston.
• Duties include: Texas Occupation Code 451
- Report to the Director of Sports Medicine
- Under the direction or delegated authority of a physician(s) licensed in Texas e.g. Medical Director(s)
Written, verbal or standing orders
- Comply with all NATA Code of Ethics, BOC Standards of Professional Practice, State of Texas Athletic Training Laws and CAATE Standards
- Responsible for all guidelines set forth by the NCAA and the Committee on Competitive Safeguard and Medical Aspects of Sports (CSMAS)
- Responsible for all guidelines set forth by the NATA position statements as they refer to the health and safety of all student-athletes and standards of “best practice”.
- Understand, follow and help maintain the policy and procedures of the sports medicine department
- Understand, follow and help maintain the Catastrophic Injury Preparation and Prevention Training, Emergency Action Plans and Catastrophic Incident Plan
- Understand, follow and help maintain the Drug Education and Testing Program
- Understand, follow and help manage the ordering and budgeting of the athletic training room supplies and equipment
- Understand, follow and help manage medical bills, insurance claims and payments of athletic related medical expenses
- Assist the director of sports medicine in evaluating, and assigning staff ATs to specific sport assignments
- Assist the director of sports medicine with administrative duties as assigned
- Risk Reduction, Wellness and Health Literacy
- Assessment, Evaluation and Diagnosis
- Critical Incident Management
- Therapeutic Intervention
- Healthcare Administration and Professional Responsibility
- Electronic medical records (EMR) – HIPAA compliant
- Conduct team meetings to inform and educate student-athletes, coaching staff and administrators on health care and wellness promotion e.g. Catastrophic Injury Preparation and Prevention, Hydration, Drug Testing Policy, Mental Health, Concussion Management Protocol
- Communicate with AT staff and team physicians on appropriate plans and progressions of injuries
- Communicate with student-athletes, coaches and parents on appropriate plan and progressions of injuries
- Attend scheduled team practices and both home and away games/events as necessary
- Preceptor in clinical instruction and supervision of athletic training students in CAATE accredited Masters Athletic Training Education Program
- Conduct yourself in a professional and ethical manner
COMPENSATION: • Full time benefited employee • 1year appointment letter • Monthly pay schedule • Base salary: TBD based on experience • Post season incentive pay
