Required Qualifications:

Four (4) years of full-time experience in counseling. Experience in a collegiate or professional athletic setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in sports psychology. Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) or Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) education and credentialing. Experience in athletic counseling or sports performance mental health. Experience within a Division 1 athletics department. Experience as a college athlete. Understanding of NCAA Compliance Rules (played a Division I, II or III sport, coached in collegiate athletics or as a staff member in a collegiate athletic program).
Brief Description of Duties:
The Stony Brook University Sports Performance Counselor supports the Stony Brook University Athletics Department’s mission by providing comprehensive mental health and performance psychology services to student-athletes. This position will provide clinical counseling and performance-based consultations, team talks, and education to promote the emotional well-being, athletic performance, and overall personal development of student-athletes.
Responsibilities also include crisis intervention, outreach programming, and contributing to a culture of wellness and inclusion within the athletics community.
This role requires specialized expertise in sport psychology, cultural competency, and the ability to support a diverse student-athlete population. Working closely with diverse stakeholders, the individual ensures the holistic development of student-athletes to achieve their athletic, academic and personal goals.

Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such may be required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.
