Overview

Under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director of Performance Nutrition, provide comprehensive nutrition services for NCAA student-athletes within the men’s and women’s basketball teams. Elevate basketball athlete nutrition in support of optimum performance, educating and motivating student athletes and staff within the programs. Abide by NCAA, Big East, and departmental regulations, in addition to the code of ethics for nutrition and dietetic professionals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide evidence-based nutrition education to student athletes on the men’s and women’s basketball teams. Conduct individual and group counseling on nutrition, hydration, supplementation, and recovery. Using credible research-supported evidence and best practices in performance nutrition, provide regular updates to student athletes and staff on additional methods to improve athlete health and performance. Translate current research into applicable nutrition interventions. (20%)
  2. Collaborate with the Assistant Athletic Director of Performance Nutrition on conducting nutrition screening, assessment, intervention, and monitoring and evaluation of nutrition care plans for student athletes. Innovate in collaboration with the Assistant AD to provide and uphold a high standard of nutrition care to student athletes. Work closely with the Assistant AD to create and update policies and procedures related to performance nutrition. Provide regular updates to the Assistant AD on basketball athlete nutrition, and areas of growth. (20%)
  3. Coordinate provided training table meals, competition-related nutrition, and on-campus nutrition using best practices for optimum health and performance (within budget guidelines). This includes provision of food and supplements in team facilities, the fueling station as it pertains to Men’s and Women’s Basketball, training tables, and meal plans for on-campus dining. On competition days, collaborate with campus dining services and basketball staff to execute game-day meals, hydration, and supplements. (20%)
  4. Attend Men’s & Women’s Basketball team practices and training sessions as deemed appropriate, assisting with nutrition and hydration initiatives surrounding performance through the fueling station, locker room provisions, and sideline nutrition. This includes creating, conducting, and updating pre and post-training nutrition initiatives using current evidence-based practices in performance nutrition. (20%)
  5. Operate within interdisciplinary teams to provide the best clinical care for health and wellbeing of student athletes. Refer athletes when appliable, promote use of internal health and wellness services, and communicate with health and wellness staff regarding athlete care. Innovate within interdisciplinary teams to serve as a high standard of student-athlete health and access. Collaboration may involve, but is not limited to, the departments of Sports Medicine, High Performance, Sport Psychology, Campus Dining Services, and Athletic Administration. (10%)
