The University of California San Diego is seeking qualified applicants for a Performance Coach position. UC San Diego, located in La Jolla, in the San Diego Metropolitan area, enrolls over 35,000 students, earned recognition as one of the world’s premier research universities, and is ranked as one of the top-10 public universities in the nation. Position Responsibilities:
Serve as a performance coach within our Athletic Performance Unit. The performance coach must have a commitment to working within, and helping shape, our holistic proprietary development framework governed by the philosophy that ‘movement matters’ and ‘good movement matters most’ while providing a competitive Athletic Performance program. The successful candidate will assist the Associate AD of Sports Performance to provide a holistic athlete readiness experience for all UC San Diego scholar-athletes.This position will primarily support women’s basketball. They will also provide support for other programs based upon the successful candidate’s expertise, motivation, and needs of the Performance department. The candidate will be required to have a desire to inspire and empower not only within their sports programs, but also within the Performance department. As such, they must have a strong leadership acumen and be driven to help cultivate a collaborative environment within the Athletic Performance Unit support staff. The candidate will proactively seek to provide additional support where deemed appropriate by the Associate AD of Performance.
To ensure holistic athlete development is achieved, excellent communication skills are required to drive integration between sport coaches and the Athletic Performance Unit. The successful candidate must be a problem solving, team player who understands the benefits of, and enjoys working within an interdisciplinary team. As such, they must value diversity of thought and strive to cross-pollinate ideas and perspectives to elevate the team.
They will be required to assist with the management of the Alex G. Spanos Athletic Performance Center in accordance with university, conference, and NCAA regulations. The incumbents are responsible for conducting all activities in compliance with NCAA, conference, and UC San Diego rules and regulations. The incumbents will follow the athletic philosophy consistent with that of the UC San Diego Athletic Department and NCAA, and a commitment to diversity in all its forms. At least 5 years cumulative experience working as a strength and conditioning or performance coach at the collegiate, national, or professional level.
Experience as a lead strength and conditioning coach for basketball. Experience with women’s basketball preferred.
Diverse practical experience as a strength and conditioning or performance coach within various competitive levels, team settings, or sports programs.
Practical experience in the collection, interpretation, and subsequent application of sport science to performance and rehabilitation (To include external & internal load management, force plates, dynamometry, movement analysis, LPT, timing platforms, etc.)
Practical experience with GPS platforms. Experience with Catapult preferred.
Demonstrated success as a team player within an interdisciplinary team.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Current NSCA-CSCS or CSCCa certification.
Current First Aid and CPR certifications.
Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology or related field. Master's degree in sports science or related area preferred.
