POSITION SUMMARY:

Duquesne University Department of Athletics is seeking a motivated, determined, hardworking individual for the position of Director of Annual Giving. Under the direction of the Senior Associate Athletic Director/Chief Revenue Officer, this position will oversee the design and implementation of a successful revenue generation campaign by creating and executing a comprehensive year-round annual giving fundraising plan for Duquesne University Athletics. The fundraising plan will include goals, strategies, and programming that aim to build and engage our donor and prospect base through fundraising and stewardship efforts. This person will also work to ensure effective administration of annual fund gifts through acknowledgment letters, benefit fulfillment, and the delivery of any necessary reports and communications.

Through personal visits, this individual will acquire, retain, and grow meaningful relationships with established and potential donors, seeking and securing gifts for the Annual Fund, as well as identifying potential major and planned giving prospects to optimize philanthropic support for Duquesne University Athletics.

This position will carry a portfolio of proven and prospective donors with the capacity to make gifts in the Leadership Annual Giving ($9,999 - $1,000) and Annual Giving ($999-$1) range.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Comprehensive oversight of the Duquesne Athletics Fund, including, but not limited to:

Create and manage a multidimensional fundraising plan and appeal schedule that utilizes a variety of mediums (direct mail, electronic, Day of Giving, social media, etc.) and focus on retention, acquisition, and growth efforts

Create and manage all donor stewardship communication efforts (acknowledgement letters, impact reports, gift recognition levels, etc.)

Coordinate with the Associate Athletic Director, External Relations to create messaging, communication calendar, and collateral for appeals and stewardship efforts

Coordinate with the Executive Director of Annual Giving in the office of University Advancement for appeal schedule, data and list management, and tracking efforts

Maintain a portfolio of 100+ annual giving donors and prospects

Develop relationships with staff and coaches to assist in department-wide fundraising strategies

In collaboration with the Associate Athletic Director for Development, manage the Advancement fund budget

Coordinate and develop relationships across the University with departments such as Advancement, Alumni Relations, Alumni Communications, and University Events

Establish ongoing relationships with individuals through follow-up efforts both remotely and in-person

Develop an understanding of all benefit aspects associated with individual support including but not limited to tickets, parking, hospitality, VIP trips and gear

Occasional travel for major games, tournaments, and postseason events

Occasional travel to visit alumni and prospective donors in select areas of the country

Completes other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution

A minimum of 3 years of experience in working in college athletics, with a track record of success in annual giving

Experience creating, promoting, and managing previous annual giving programs

Demonstrated success in revenue generation and relationship building

Clear understanding and commitment to the mission of Duquesne University

Flexibility to work non-traditional hours and weekends

Flexibility to plan and implement events on and off campus

Preferred qualifications:

Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Demonstrated skill in working independently and as part of a team to develop and achieve revenue goals

Knowledge of development programs and successful fundraising best practices

Strong ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Ability to establish effective working relationships, professional rapport, and effectively accomplish work within a university setting that includes a wide array of policies, processes, individuals, and groups

Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations

Strong communication and interpersonal skills
