About the Job
Job Description

Job Summary/Basic Function:

The Director of Sports Performance Coach will assist the Assistant Athletic Director of Olympic Sports Performance in the supervision of designated teams and the development of individual and team strength and conditioning/training programs.

Essential Functions:

● Serve as the primary Sports Performance Coach for our Division I men’s basketball program, overseeing all strength, conditioning, speed, agility, and energy system development programming specific to the demands of elite basketball.
● Critique and supervise student-athletes in the use of free-weight, equipment based, and body weight resistive exercise. Knowledge and experience in doing so is vital. If student-athletes are allowed to continue using improper technique then injury resulting in hospitalization, surgery and even death are potential consequences.
● Educate student-athletes on proper lifting techniques of free weights and machine lifting. Several types of lifts are required. Every type of lift requires a different skill development as different muscles and/or angles of lifting are being focused on. Improper technique could cause major structural and muscular damage.
● Develop a strength and conditioning program that is tailored to the demands of designated sport/s along with individual constraints that each student-athlete faces.
● Develop, monitor and instruct speed, agility and conditioning programs for each sport. Each sport will have specific criteria needed depending upon the demands of the sport at the time of year in comparison to their playing season.
● Track student-athlete progress on the computer, develop a file system and adjust workouts depending upon gains of each individual and season of lifting that the student-athlete is in. Special attention must be given to developing individual and team goals in off-season, during season, post-season and pre-season.
● Student-athletes must be carefully monitored during workouts for signs of dehydration, excessive fatigue and overstepping proven physical, mental and emotional limitations of the student-athlete.
● Collaborate with sport coaches, athletic trainers, sports medicine staff, nutrition personnel, and sport science professionals to ensure an integrated, athlete-centered performance model.
● Must establish and maintain working relationships with all sport staff and support staff within the Athletic Department. Also must maintain and cultivate good working relationships with nutritional supplement vendors.
● Provide performance support to additional assigned Olympic sports on a limited basis, ensuring programming aligns with sport-specific needs and seasonal demands.
● Assist in supervising and mentoring graduate assistants, interns, or support staff assigned to basketball or other designated sports.
● Contribute to departmental sports science initiatives, including data collection, workload monitoring, performance testing, and applied research projects in collaboration with campus or external partners.
