The Athletics Ministry Assistant for LU Shepherd (Part-Time, 20 hours/week) supports the Director of LU Shepherd to Athletics in advancing the holistic spiritual development of Liberty University student-athletes. Working under the guidance of the Director, this role contributes to ministry programming, relationship-building, and student engagement in alignment with the mission of the Office of Spiritual Development (OSD). The Assistant also helps coordinate aspects of graduate student scholar (GS) recruitment and development, who serve as primary disciplers within the athletic community.
Support the Director of LU Shepherd to Athletics with ministry programming and spiritual formation opportunities for female Athletic Shepherds and student-athletes. This role may require appropriate presence in female locker room areas before or after practices, competitions, or team activities. The position may also include occasional travel with women’s athletic teams to provide spiritual support, mentoring, and pastoral care during away competitions or team events.
Assist in providing mentorship and encouragement to Athletic Shepherds under the direction of the Director.
Help build and maintain positive relationships within the Liberty University Athletic Department, including with coaches, staff, and students.
Participate in occasional hospital visitations or outreach to support student-athletes.
Support communication and coordination related to female athletic student concerns involving university offices (e.g., Chancellor’s Office, International Student Office).
Strictly adheres to Liberty University policies, representing the University in an exemplary manner.
Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s Christian model and Mission – Training Champions for Christ.

A four-year college degree is required.
Prior experience working with college-aged students in a church, ministry, or university setting is expected.
A working knowledge of student-athlete issues and current trends in higher education is necessary.
At least one year of experience in sports ministry is preferred.
To obtain LU-approved driver certification, individuals must be 21 years of age or older, possess a valid driver’s license with a minimum of five (5) years of documented driving history, and maintain a clean driving record.
Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to convey clear, well-articulated information.
Ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to convey messages and correspond in an articulate and professional manner.
Possess public communication skills that allow professional representation of Liberty University to a variety of business and community customers and associates.
Good organizational skills.
Occasionally required to travel.
Frequently required to sit for extended periods to perform deskwork or type on a keyboard.
Regularly required to hear and speak in order to effectively communicate orally.
Occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb stairs to move about the building.
Handle materials, reach overhead, kneel or stoop in order to conduct business.
Regularly lift 10 or fewer pounds.
The working environment in which one will typically perform the essential functions of this position is both in climate-controlled office setting as well as in sport athletic facilities.
