JOB TITLE: Graduate Assistant - Women’s Flag Football
DEPARTMENT: Athletics
WAGE: $15.52/hour
JOB SUMMARY: Saginaw Valley State University, a DII member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic conference invites applications for the position of Graduate Assistant for Women’s Flag Football to assist the head coach to develop, promote and supervise all facets of the program; assist the head coach to develop and execute strategies for the recruitment of student-athletes for highly visible regionally and nationally competitive team; assist the head coach to organize and direct all aspects of the flag football programs, organizing practice sessions to enhance the team’s performance.
Graduate Assistants are required to work a minimum of 10 hours per week. During the fall and winter semesters, work hours may not exceed 24 hours per week. During the spring and summer semesters, Graduate Assistants may work up to, but not exceed, 40 hours per week.
This appointment is for a maximum of two calendar years.
JOB DETAILS:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrated knowledge of and adherence to all applicable NCAA and conference compliance rules and regulations.
Assist in supporting compliance with applicable university, conference, and NCAA policies and regulations, including areas such as student-athlete eligibility, recruiting activities, financial aid procedures, scheduling, and academic progress.
Abides by NCAA Bylaws 10.1 and 11.1 regarding ethical conduct and the responsibility to positively contribute to a campus culture of NCAA rules compliance.
Responsible for promoting a positive academic environment to encourage all athletes to strive for academic excellence.
Assist in preparing and executing practice and game plans, strategies and alternatives which are designed to bring success to the program.
Support and encourage student-athletes in their athletic, academic, and personal development. Assist in maintaining a safe and positive environment that promotes student-athlete well-being and success.
Establishing and maintaining community contacts, which enhance the success of the program.
Assisting in the purchase, maintenance and inventory of uniforms and equipment.
Assist in directing and managing the recruiting efforts of the program.
Assist in designing and implementing off season training programs for student-athletes.
Assist in all fundraising needs for the program.
Maintain appropriate communications with student-athletes and parents.
Assist in the planning of banquets, fund raising efforts and other activities which promote the program.
Assist in managing travel arrangements for the team.
Assist with promoting, operating and coordinating summer camps.
Perform related and other duties as assigned by Head Coach and Athletic Administration
Assist in occasional facilities and event operations as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Events.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Supervision is received from the Head Women’s Flag Football Coach.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree
Currently admitted to a graduate program or eligible and intending to apply upon accepting the offer.
Knowledge and understanding of NCAA rules and regulations
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to perform essential job functions with or without accommodation.
Willingness to travel and work nights and weekends.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Exceptional leadership skills.
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
Strong desire and ability to successfully recruit
Strong follow-through skills, as well as the ability to plan, organize, and control projects through completion.
Experience coaching or participation in collegiate level football.
TUITION ELIGIBILITY & TAX IMPLICATIONS:
Graduate Assistantships include a tuition and fee waiver of up to 12 credit hours per semester (maximum 30 per academic year), funded by the SVSU central budget.
Full-time enrollment (9 credits or more) is required in the Fall and Winter semesters, with minimal exceptions available. Less than full-time enrollment is allowed in the final semester for completion or for programs that do not offer full-time enrollment.
Per IRS regulations, tuition waivers may be considered taxable income. Amounts exceeding $5,250 annually are generally taxable and will be included in compensation. Employees should consult a tax advisor for guidance.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
All work associated with this role must be performed within the state of Michigan.
Work is performed in a coaching, athletic, competitive indoor/outdoor environment.
Weeknights and weekends, including travel, will be required.
