JOB SUMMARY

MAJOR DUTIES
Schedules all employee coverage for events as well as scheduling doctors’ visits and outside coverage when necessary.
Assesses overall program effectiveness and makes recommendations for change to Athletic Director.
Provide treatment for student-athletes and appropriate communication to head coaches regarding treatments.
Responsible for maintaining required documentation on all athletes which may include delegation of this task to the Athletic Trainer(s).
Oversee sport practice sessions and provide routine and emergency treatment as necessary.
Perform administrative duties for the athletic training program including, but not limited to: recruiting and supervising staff, overseeing student-athlete insurance, managing third-party billing, scheduling appointments as well as consulting with physicians and specialists regarding treatments and/or surgeries, risk management and budget oversight.
Serve as the NCAA Health Care Administrator.
Instruct student-athletes, coaches and staff on athletic training policies, procedures and best practices to create and maintain a safe environment.
Responsible for recruitment and employment decisions for assigned personnel.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge of accessing injuries, treatment, care and rehabilitation.
Knowledge of budget management, understanding of insurance and third-party billing.
Skill in use of athletic training and rehabilitation machines and equipment.
Skill in computer, multi-functioning devices (copy, scan and fax).
SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The supervisor provides administrative direction with assignments in terms of broadly defined missions or functions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include department and university policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific, but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of a variation of duties requiring different and unrelated processes and methods. Frequent interruptions contribute to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to manage the athletic training function for the university.Success in this position contributes to the efficiency, effectiveness, and safety of those operations and impacted employees and students.
CONTACTS
Contacts are typically with co-workers, other internal university personnel, students, faculty, members of the general public and medical personnel.
Contacts are typically to provide services, to give or exchange information, or to resolve problems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or while intermittently sitting, bending, kneeling, standing, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts both light to heavy objects up to 50 pounds.
The work is typically performed in an office, gymnasiums, and outdoors in sports complexes during cold and hot temperatures as well as in inclement weather. The position will need to work evenings, weekends, and many holidays and will include travel.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has direct supervision over assigned personnel which includes Athletic Trainer(s), Graduate Assistant(s), Interns, and Work Study Student(s).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of National Athletic Trainer’s Association Board of Certification.
State of Oklahoma Athletic Trainer License required or eligible.
Master’s degree required.
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated five to ten years’ experience or service.
Annual salary based on experience, with excellent benefits, including generous leave time.
