The Head Basketball Coach organizes, coordinates, manages, and supervises all aspects of a NCAA Division II basketball program within the parameters designated by the University, Sunshine State Conference, and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Head Coach must demonstrate extensive knowledge of basketball and is responsible for recruiting qualified student athletes, scheduling and coaching intercollegiate basketball games, and scheduling practice preparation. The successful candidate will possess strong skills in leadership, recruitment, budgeting, alumni and community engagement, and fundraising. The Head Coach must demonstrate a vision for basketball at Barry University that promotes student success and supports the mission of the University. The Head Coach will fulfill other duties as assigned by their direct supervisor. This is a 12-month position.

Teaching/Coaching

Instruct, teach, and coach student-athletes on game strategies and performance principles during practice and competition.
Promote a positive and inclusive team culture that promotes teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
Conducts video analysis and instruction as a teaching and preparation tool as needed.

Recruiting/Retention
Collaborate with departmental admissions staff to recruit, enroll, and retain high-caliber basketball student-athletes for varsity-level competition.
Ensure that the varsity and JV teams meet the annual squad size enrollment goal and maximize the student athletic aid budget.
Ensure that program recruitment activities adhere to University and NCAA policies and procedures.
Monitor and support the academic progress of student-athletes, emphasizing the importance of both athletic and academic success.
Collaborate with academic support services to ensure student-athletes meet eligibility requirements.
Administration
Plan/manage all competitions and practices of the program, including in-season and out-of-season player development.
Development of schedules for competitions that are fiscally efficient and spectator-friendly.
Effectively uses fiscal resources to coordinate team travel and recruiting.
Serves as the primary spokesperson for the Basketball program in the community.
Represent the University at conference, regional, state, and national meetings relating specifically to basketball.
Provide accurate data for individual and team accomplishments, as well as game scores.
Provide reports and documentation when required.
Communicates monthly recruiting activity with the athletic administration staff and enrollment partners.
Participating in the development and implementation of an assessment plan to measure program outcomes.
Compliance and Eligibility
Stay informed and ensure compliance with all NCAA or relevant athletic association rules and regulations.
Ensure player NCAA eligibility for competition and maintain player records of that eligibility.
Educate student-athletes on compliance matters and uphold the highest standards of integrity.
Adhere to NCAA Division II, SSC, and Barry University rules and regulations, supporting the philosophy, goals, and mission of the University and its intercollegiate athletics program as well as adherence to departmental policies and procedures.
Facility/Equipment Oversight:
Create and maintain inventory for uniforms, supplies, and equipment for effective maintenance of physical resources.
Report any facility needs to the Senior Associate Director of Athletics and Facilities staff as needed.
Ensure that the basketball facilities and equipment are properly secured at all times.
Community Engagement, Alumni, and Fundraising
Create positive support for the program within the campus community and outside constituencies, including alumni, parents, and friends of Barry University.
Engage in the department's annual fundraising campaign and sponsorship solicitation activities.
Other duties as assigned
A Bachelor's degree in any field is required. A Master's degree is preferred.
Red Cross/First Aid - CPR certification is required
A valid driver's license is required.
1-3 years of proven experience.
Adept at written and oral communication
Maintains good rapport with high school and youth coaches.
Exercises a high level of public contact on both, local, state, and national levels through games, recruiting, camps and clinics, and developmental programs.
