Position Summary:
The Head Men’s Basketball Coach will direct all aspects of the administration of the Campbell University Division I Men’s Basketball program. This position is responsible for executing proper departmental policy and procedures, hiring and supervising assistant staff and support personnel, and ensuring the university men’s basketball program complies with all mandatory NCAA and Conference regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Direct practice, team competition, and game scheduling.
• Recruit and retain student-athletes that will advance the competitive and academic success of the Division I program.
• Oversee, maintain, and provide structured managerial techniques and consistent communication with the team and the department.
• Prepare budget recommendations and manage operating budget within the Policies and Procedures of the University.
• Represent Campbell University and the sport program at community and fundraising events.
• Communicate and at times work closely with other departments on campus, such as academic advising, residence life, admissions, sports information, campus recreation, compliance, athletic training, and strength and conditioning.
• Uphold and abide by all Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to; Title IX, HIPAA and FERPA guidelines.
• Exemplify the goals, values, and objectives of the program.
• Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
• Other job related duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
Education/Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree desired
• At least 5+ years of college coaching experience with proven recruiting at the NCAA Division I level desired
• Experience competing as an NCAA Division I athlete desired
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Working knowledge of ARMS and Teamworks or similar software systems.
• Ability to teach the game of basketball at a high level and within a university setting.
• Possess excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively to all groups through both oral and written channels
• Maintain strict confidentiality.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, the internet and social media.
• Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with student athletes, parents, coaches, officials, trainers, university faculty and staff and the public.
• Work independently as well as function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people.
• Exercise independent judgment in complex and new situations.
• Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet strict deadlines.
• Detail-oriented and willing to work in a changing environment.
• This position demands accuracy, integrity and the ability to work with the Christian mission of Campbell University.
