Johnson C. Smith University invites applications for the position of Linebackers Coach within its Football program. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and driven professional to contribute to a dynamic athletic department committed to excellence both on and off the field.

Reporting directly to the Head Football Coach, the Linebackers Coach plays a critical role in the development, mentorship, and overall success of student-athletes within the football program. This position is responsible for fostering a culture of discipline, accountability, and high performance while supporting the academic and personal growth of student-athletes.

The Linebackers Coach will collaborate closely with coaching staff, university departments, and support services to ensure alignment with institutional goals, NCAA regulations, and conference standards. The role requires strong leadership, strategic thinking, and the ability to build meaningful relationships across campus, including faculty, staff, and students.

In addition to contributing to the competitive success of the program, the selected candidate will serve as a key representative of JCSU Athletics, supporting recruitment efforts, promoting the program within the community, and upholding the University’s mission and values.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in collegiate athletics with a commitment to excellence, integrity, and student-athlete development. A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and coaching experience is required, with a master’s degree preferred. Candidates should demonstrate a working knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance standards, along with the ability to effectively recruit and support student-athletes in achieving both academic and athletic success.

The successful candidate will exhibit excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills, with the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and the broader community. This role requires sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly visible environment that includes travel and non-traditional work hours. A valid driver’s license is preferred.
