Job Title: Men's Basketball Strength and Conditioning Coach (3/4 Time, Contract)

Note: This is a part-time contract position.

Job Summary

BYU Men's Basketball is looking for a high-character and ambitious strength and conditioning coach with elite interpersonal skills to work within a world-class high-performance team. The vision of this position is to develop an aspiring strength and conditioning coach into a world-class practitioner. The BYU MBB Director of Strength & Conditioning has over 20 years’ experience and will mentor this person to operate within a modern high-performance department.  BYU MBB coaches and performance departments operate similarly to an NBA organization and employ a full-time Director of Nutrition, Mental Performance, Physical Therapist, Director of Strength & Conditioning and Sport Science, who are supported by a group of dedicated student interns. BYU MBB has a world-class training facility next to the Marriott Arena that includes a 2100ft weight room adjacent to the basketball court.

What You’d Be Responsible For

This position is responsible for assisting the Director of Strength & Conditioning and Sport Science in the implementation of all training processes and protocols to BYU MBB student-athletes.

 

Strength & Conditioning Coach responsibilities:

 

• Assist in the delivery of strength and power programs.
• Assist in the delivery of multi-directional speed programs.
• Assist in the delivery of energy system development programs.
• Assist in the delivery of mobility and movement vitamin programs.
• Assist in the delivery of rehabilitation programs under direction of physical therapist.
• Assist in the delivery of recovery protocols.
• Assist in the development and delivery of athlete education content and curriculum.

 

This position has significant Sport Science responsibilities such as:

• Assist in data collection and reporting for new-athlete onboarding assessments.
• Lead On-Court Load optimization management, utilizing Kinexon LPS and First Beat heart rate technology.  Weekly load optimization reports to coaching staff.
• Work with the Data Scientist-Intern in building and developing the Athlete Management System.
• Develop custom reports using Canva for coaches, athletes, agents, scouts and performance staff.

• Assist with testing and monitoring processes and protocols using the following technology:

  • Kangatech, Hawkins Dynamics Force plates, Delos, 1080 Quantum Synchro, 1080 Sprint-2, Gymaware, Bridge Athletic, Oura Ring, VALD Smartspeed and Vuemotion.

• Assist the Director in updating protocols and procedure documents.

• Assist with the operation and delivery of BYU Basketball’s Speed and Agility Camps in June each year.  This camp will be paid separately and in addition to the outlined annual salary.

• Assist with the BYU MBB Fathers and Sons camp during the Memorial Day weekend each year.  This camp will be paid separately and in addition to the outlined annual salary.

• This position will be required to travel with the team in-season and must be able to work long/flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, particularly during travel.

 

What Qualifies You to Apply?

 

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or related field
• Current CSCS and/or CSCCa certification preferred
• 2 years’ experience in collegiate athletics or equivalent
• Current U.S. Driver’s License
• Ability to work in USA without a work VISA
• Willingness to uphold and live by the university's Honor Code
• All new employees who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will be required to hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend, which may be verified during the application process.

 

Preferred

• Basic Life Support (BLS) or First Aid Certification

• Physical Requirements:

• Carrying, Climbing, Crawling, Hearing/Listening, Lifting, Manual Dexterity, Pulling/Pushing, Seeing, Speaking, Squatting/Kneeling, Standing, Walking.

• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel

• Ambition to work in elite basketball setting

• Previous experience working in basketball preferred

• Previous experience with sports science modalities

• 3-5 years’ experience in collegiate athletics or equivalent

• Attention to detail orientation.

• Highly organized and analytical.

• Possess a strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism.

• A team player who handles multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Typical Starting Pay: Depends on Experience
