The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA), Department of Athletics, anticipates filling the TERM NTE 31 AUG 2029 (full-time) position of SENIOR ASSOCIATE ATHLETIC DITRECTOR INTERCOLLEGIATE SPORTS. This is a Title 10 Excepted Service Appointment. Appointment is not to exceed 5 years. Extensions and/or Subsequent re-appointments may be considered based upon an assessment of performance, Air Force and departmental needs, and funding availability.
Major Duties: Perform sports administration duties in the Department of Athletics, United States Air Force Academy and is the Sports Administrator. Provides supervision for the assigned intercollegiate programs in accordance with the by-laws of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Mountain West Conference (MWC) and other applicable conferences. Represent intercollegiate coaches and student-athletes in development and presentation of issues and changes for these programs. Provide professional/expert guidance to the Director of Athletics concerning intercollegiate issues. Ensure effective guidance/inputs are provided to the Academy leadership and to all AD staff agencies regarding issues for intercollegiate programs. Develop and communicate orally or in writing, briefings to USAFA and AF senior leadership on athletic issues, as required. Ensure compliance with NCAA and Conference rules; effectively plan, schedule, administer selected intercollegiate programs involving competition with colleges and universities nationwide. Assist assigned coaching staffs with planning, scheduling, budgeting and execution of programs. Ensure coaches and administrative staff adhere to professional and ethical standards of the Academy. Provide resources and other support to ensure high quality programs are maintained. Maintain contact with athletic booster organizations to ensure compliance with NCAA and AF directives and to ensure institutional control over such activities. Supervisory - Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjust priorities and prepares schedules for completion of work. Develops ways to improve work methods and processes. Provides guidance and advice on work and administrative matters. Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management. Selects or recommends selection of candidates for vacancies, promotions, details, and reassignment in consideration of skills, qualifications, and mission requirements. Develops, modies, and/or interprets performance standards.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required. Candidates must possess a minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible experience within the NCAA in athletics administration, intercollegiate athletics, sports management, higher education athletics administration, physical education administration, recreation or sport program administration, public administration, business administration, organizational leadership, or a closely related field. The required experience must demonstrate the knowledge, leadership, and administrative expertise necessary to effectively perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree from an accredited college or university in athletics administration, sports management, higher education administration, business administration, organizational leadership, or a closely related field. At least ten (10) years of progressively responsible supervisory or management experience, including demonstrated success leading diverse teams, managing personnel, developing staff, and overseeing complex organizational operations within an NCAA athletics, higher education, or similarly complex environment.
