Job Description

Do you have a passion for college athletics, digital media, and live sports production? The University of Southern Maine’s Athletics and Recreation Department seeks applicants for a Part-time (24 hours per week), ongoing 10-month, Sports Information Assistant.

As a Sports Information Assistant, you will support all facets of USM’s intercollegiate athletics communications operation, helping enhance the visibility of Huskies Athletics through high-quality live video production and student-focused sports information and athletic communications. This position will work closely with the Director of Athletic Communications to support game-day operations, live broadcasts, statistical reporting, digital content, and communications for assigned athletic programs.

What You’ll Do:

Athletic Communications, Broadcast & Game Operations

• Serve as the coordinator and lead producer for assigned home athletic events streamed on FloSports, in alignment with Little East Conference broadcast standards.
• Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise student workers and on-air talent, including camera operators, replay personnel, graphics operators, and commentators.
• Manage and maintain video production equipment and troubleshoot technical issues as needed.
• Assist with game-day operations, including statistics, live scoring, game notes, and postgame recaps in accordance with NCAA and Little East Conference policies.
• Support timely updates to the USM Athletics website as assigned.
• Promote student-athlete, team, and departmental achievements through written content.
• Contribute to conference and NCAA reporting requirements as assigned.
• Uphold the NCAA Division III philosophy, emphasizing sportsmanship, equity, and the student-athlete experience.

Student Supervision

• Provide guidance and support to work-study students, student broadcasters, and volunteers to ensure successful game-day operations and high-quality broadcasts.

Professional Engagement

• Maintain active professional relationships with colleagues and organizations within collegiate athletics communications and sports media.
• Participate, as appropriate, in activities and workshops sponsored by College Sports Communicators and the Little East Conference.
• Maintain contact with other professional organizations related to sports communications and media production.

What We’re Looking For

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

• Knowledge and demonstrated skill in webcasting and live video production.
• Ability to use in-game statistical software and website content management systems.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with administrators, coaches, student-athletes, media representatives, and other stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to package and communicate information effectively for media and public audiences.
• Working knowledge of a broad range of sports activities.
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
• An attitude that fosters a respectful, collaborative, and supportive workplace environment.

Pay and Benefits

This is an in-person part-time position working 24 hours per week for 10 months (August through mid-June), based on our Gorham Campus.  This position offers an annual salary of $21,500.00.  The first-year salary will be adjusted based upon start date.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in sports communications, journalism, media production, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Knowledge of NCAA statistical programs (e.g., NCAA LiveStats, StatCrew, Genius Sports).
• Experience in live video production, preferably in a collegiate or interscholastic athletics setting.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and a flexible schedule based on athletic events
