POSITION SUMMARY:

The Sports Information Director is a full-time, 12-month position, responsible for leading communications and enhancing the visibility of Westminster University’s Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, while also providing support for game day operations. Westminster University is a proud member of NCAA Division II and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, sponsoring 15 NCAA varsity teams in addition to several non-NCAA sport programs.

Reporting to the Assistant Athletics Director - Operations and working in close collaboration with the Office of Marketing & Communications, this position is critical in elevating the University’s athletic brand on campus, in the community, and throughout the region. This role also supervises the management of the department’s digital presence, and social media platforms. Responsibilities include writing and distributing pre and post-game press releases, managing game-day programs and promotional materials, and overseeing live broadcasts for home athletic events - from technical setup to staffing and production. 

This position oversees statistical operations for home events, maintains cumulative game stats, rosters, and records for all sports programs, and handles required reporting for the RMAC and NCAA. Responsibilities also include archiving statistics, managing award nominations and game results, and coordinating interviews with student-athletes and coaches.

The Sports Information Director requires a high level of organization, creativity, and the ability to work independently under tight deadlines. It also involves a flexible schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and occasional travel.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage media coverage for intercollegiate athletics in collaboration with Marketing & Communications; Identify and establish relationships with local & regional media outlets and provide them with regular and effective updates including game recaps, videos, photos, story ideas and feature stories to increase coverage and visibility.
• Manage statistics at home events, keep track of cumulative game stats, rosters and records for each sports program and manage required statistical and game reporting for the RMAC & NCAA.
• Record and archive statistics, manage award nominations and recognitions, and game results; Manage student-athlete and coach interviews.
• Build and manage a Communications team of students, interns and part-time staff to assist with daily and game-day operations.
• Write and distribute pre and post-game press releases, department announcements, social media posts, game results and statistics.
• Manage home event web stream broadcasts; including setup, takedown, operating and staffing.
• Assist home event operations, including hiring, scheduling and supervising for web-stream broadcasts, statistician, coordinate photography, and trouble-shooting.
• Manage head & team shots, action shots and other pictures for department to use on website, promotional purposes and for future use. Manage online photo store and electronic photo files.
• Work collaboratively in the planning and preparation of the Athletics Hall of Fame selection process through data collection, management of nominee list and annual selection.
• Design and complete game-day programs and other department print materials needs.
• Comply with all NCAA, conference and athletic department rules and regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Operational Requirements -  Schedule outside normal business hours. This position requires an irregular work schedule including days, nights, weekends and possible travel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Master’s degree is preferred.
• Demonstrated successful experience in college athletics department or related experience.
• Experience with communications, game-day operations, Sidearm Sports website, web stream production, NCAA & Stat Crew statistic programs, and live stats.
• Proven leadership, public relations, and communication skills.
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to connect to a variety of constituencies in group presentation and one-on-one settings.
• Proficient with Microsoft Applications, InDesign, Photoshop and the ability to learn new software programs.
• Able to work independently and in a team-oriented environment while demonstrating high ethical standards.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and proven organizational skills.
• Professional demeanor and ability to work effectively with various constituencies including students, faculty, administrators, and the general public
