Responsible for maintaining a caseload of students-athletes to enhance academic strategy development and support student success. Student Athlete Success Specialists encourage achievement of goals through self-assessment, reflection and connection to campus and community resources with a goal of graduation. Performs other functionally related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree preferably in social work, psychology, counseling and education.
One (1) year of experience in academic support services in an educational or non-profit setting. Experience can be in advising, mentoring, tutoring, student programming or student services.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as assigned.
Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, education or related field.
One (1) year experience in higher education retention programs.
Experience using an online student engagement system.
Ability to increase persistence, retention, and graduation rates.
Ability to creatively motivate, empower, and recognize students.
Ability to work effectively with a diverse population of students.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills and decision-making abilities.
Strong interpersonal skills and have a “Customer Focus” attitude and delivery.
Ability to build and maintain professional relationships and work as an individual contributor and an effective team player.
Possess the ability to manage projects, meet deadlines and tackle emergencies and difficult situations.
Possess negotiation and conflict resolution skills to address issues and opportunities for improvement.
Knowledge of utilizing social media network communications.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint
