Throws Coach

Description and Major Functions

The Part-Time Throws Coach will collaborate with the Head Coach to guide and mentor scholar-athletes in the collegiate throws events of shot put, discus, weight throw, and hammer throw. This position is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of event-specific

training programs, organizing practices, and providing high-level technical instruction to enhance athletic performance. The coach will foster a positive, competitive team environment that supports the holistic growth and success of student-athletes.

A key responsibility of this position is providing weekly event-specific instruction to each student-athlete in their assigned throwing discipline (shot put, discus, hammer, or weight). These practice sessions are designed to accelerate technical development and maximize each athlete's competitive potential.

Qualifications 

The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong professional work ethic and a commitment to students’ academic success, holding themselves and the student-athletes to the highest standards; have significant knowledge of and demonstrate leadership skills, organizational and communication skills, recruiting and coaching skills, and adequate understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel, and knowledge of and adherence to compliance of all NCAA applicable procedures, rules, and regulations.

The individual must also demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a Christian higher education institution and abide by all NCAA DII, Northern Sun Conference, and University policies. 

A bachelor’s degree is required; both participation and coaching experience are preferred; a strong professional work ethic; and a commitment to students’ academic success. Travel is necessary; a valid driver’s license is required; and the ability to successfully pass a background check and lift up to 40 lbs. is required.
